What to Expect During Our Counseling Session
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work with a dietitian, you’re not alone. Whether you’re seeking support for medical nutrition therapy, navigating a health condition, or simply hoping to feel more confident around food, it can feel vulnerable to take that first step. At Mind Well Nutrition, my goal is to make the process comfortable, collaborative, and empowering—so you can leave each session with clarity and confidence.
Step 1: Getting to Know You
Our first session is all about you. Before we dive into specific nutrition goals, I want to understand your story—your daily routine, eating patterns, symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and how you feel in your body right now. This helps me see the full picture, beyond just food, so we can create a plan that truly fits your life.
You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Many clients find it refreshing to finally talk openly about their relationship with food and health without judgment.
Step 2: Setting Goals Together
Once we understand your journey with food and nutrition, we’ll identify the key areas you’d like to focus on.
These might include:
Managing a medical condition (like digestive issues, diabetes, or hormonal imbalance)
Quieting food noise and building a balanced relationship with food
Supporting your energy, mood, and digestion through integrative nutrition
Optimizing nutrition intake for sports performance or weight loss
Together, we’ll set realistic and meaningful goals that align with your personal values.
Step 3: Personalized Resources
After our discussion, I’ll provide you with your personalized recommendations and resources tailored to your needs.
This may include:
Meal ideas or planning support
Educational handouts and resources related to your symptoms and long-term health
Mindful eating tools to help you reconnect with your body’s cues
You’ll walk away with actionable steps to begin implementing right away.
Step 4: Ongoing Support & Follow-Ups
Healing and change take time, and progress looks different for everyone. Follow-up sessions allow us to check in, celebrate what’s working, and gently troubleshoot challenges together. We’ll adjust your plan as your body and lifestyle evolve—keeping your goals realistic, flexible, and sustainable.
Many clients describe follow-ups as a chance to pause, reflect, and realign. These sessions are a safe space to explore what’s coming up for you, both physically and emotionally, as you deepen your understanding of nourishment.
Follow ups frequency will be determined by what feels comfortable for you and varies based on your needs.
Step 5: Insurance & Cost
I understand that investing in your health can feel overwhelming—especially when it comes to out-of-pocket costs. The good news is that through my partnership with Fay Nutrition, many of my clients are able to use their health insurance to cover sessions, often with little to no out-of-pocket cost.
Fay works directly with major insurance providers to make nutrition counseling more accessible and affordable, so you can focus on your health—not billing stress.
